The Social Open Learning Environment (SOLE) is an interdisciplinary site that encourages active methodology and the use of modern Open Educational Resources (OER) to develop a community of learning. Located in 7 different geographical and cultural contexts:
France, Russia, Spain, Poland, Austria, Italy and Bulgaria.
6 institutions from Higher Education (HE), 1 Policy maker, 1 Local Development Agency and 1 IT company have worked together over the last two years to bring the fundamental benefit of European cooperation to students and teachers.
The experience of working together on a specific project has proven an essential step in creating European awareness and fostering a sense of European identity which could not have been achieved otherwise.
The importance of collaboration and project work was the driving force behind the strategic partnership to guide HE towards ICT innovation in education and provide awareness of eco-tourism initiatives all around Europe in the social online context of multicultural learning.
The fundamental objectives of the project are to implement the concept of innovation in HE by means of using social networks to learn and teach. Moreover, our goals are to create different OER (Open Educational Resources) in Eco-tourism and Geo-parks and a pedagogical guide of the SOLE social. Over 2 years, students from Spain, Russia, Poland, Italy and Austria have been experimenting with learning in a collaborative environment in SOLE using a wide variety of resources and teaching proposals.
